TONG YUAN WORKSHOP, the 7th Method, Tamboerskloof, Cape Town 23rd September 2024

Tong Yuan is the seventh method of nine, within the Yuan Gong system.

Tong Yuan involves a series of heart-quality meditations that are used flexibly to develop a deep awareness of what we label as our 'Heart' and its unique, non-intellectual consciousness. Within this 'Heart consciousness', are eternal, unchanged qualities, echoed throughout the Universe and its many manifestations. Through Tong Yuan practice, we appreciate more fully the true meaning and existence within, of five fundamental qualities of a pure human heart, each one returning eventually to its unconditional state: Trust, Openness, Love, Gratitude, and Gongjing (True Respect, Humility, Oneness). This understanding and eventually, full 'knowing', spills over into life in enriching ways.

The daily practice of Tong Yuan grounds these qualities by its action on both Qi and information until eventually they are never lost and once more fully manifest in our Hearts; irrespective of external circumstances. The stage of 'full manifestation' of the five fundamental heart qualities is a necessary and preemptive step for the full realisation of the True Self, so it has significance beyond simply improving the touchy, feely stuff of life - though that is good too!

Tong Yuan can be used alone or concurrently with the earlier 'moving-Qi', methods, profoundly deepening them, however, eventually, it extends itself into every moment of life.
